Reclining Furniture Care

Recliner mechanisms are engineered to endure many years of operation and are typically tested for twenty-five thousand cycles of opening and closing. However, despite their robustness, they can still be bent or broken if not used correctly.

Helpful Tips for Manual or Power Recliners: Always ease yourself gently onto the recliner. While in an upright position, activate the reclining mechanism using steady and controlled pressure. When bringing manual recliners back to an upright position, lean forward and utilize your calves to assist in retracting the footrest while also pushing the handle forward. Ensure all four legs of your recliner are level and securely in contact with the floor. Floors can be uneven, especially near walls. Things to Avoid: Just as your lifting capacity decreases with fully extended arms, a reclining mechanism is most vulnerable when reclined or fully extended and can easily be damaged or bent. Mechanisms damaged in this way are almost impossible to repair and typically necessitate a complete parts replacement, though new parts may not always be available. Here are some tips to help you avoid damaging your reclining mechanism:

  1. Do not allow anyone to climb onto your lap or feet while in the reclined position.
  2. Avoid overreaching sideways when you are in the reclined position, as the tendency here is to push off the footrest.
  3. Always ensure the recliner is fully closed before standing up.
  4. When moving the chair, never grab, hold or pull by the footrest. Instead, carry the chair from the sides of the base.
  5. Lastly, never leave children unattended around recliners. Ensure children and their hands are kept away from the interior moving parts.

Troubleshooting Tips for Power Reclining Furniture: If the power function ceases, we recommend the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet.
  2. Test the outlet by plugging in a different electrical item.
  3. Ensure all electrical connectors are correctly plugged in.
  4. Disconnect and reconnect all electrical connections.
  5. Check for any cut or frayed wires. If found, stop using the recliner immediately.
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet.
  7. If the issue persists, please contact Underkut's Customer Service Department.
